The leader in the overall standings Oscar Piastre remained in fifth position, 0.599 seconds behind his teammate Norris. Champion Max Verstappen of the Red Bull team finished sixth fastest.
With his victory in the US Grand Prix last week, Verstappen joined Norris and Piastre in the fight for the title. The Red Bull driver was 104 points behind leader Piastre five rounds ago, but has reduced his deficit to just 40.
Oscar Piastre has failed to finish in the top three in three consecutive races. This has allowed Norris to close to within 14 points of the leader in the decisive part of the championship.
