Urs Fischer is the new head coach of Mainz, the club announced. The specialist's contract is until the summer of 2028, BTA reports. The 59-year-old Fischer is expected to make his debut at the helm of his new team next Tuesday in the match against Lech Poznan in the main phase of the Conference League. Mainz parted ways with coach Bo Henriksen last Wednesday. Interim coach Benjamin Hoffman led the team in the 0-1 loss at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the First Bundesliga two days ago.
Mainz has not won in the championship since September. The team from the Rhineland-Palatinate region is in 18th place in the standings with an asset of only 6 points after one win and three draws.
