Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane believes he can break the Bundesliga record of 41 goals in a season, but is aware he still has a long way to go.
England captain Kane has 18 goals from his first 14 games and has 20 more to go to break the record set by former Bayern player Robert Lewandowski in the 2020-21 season.
“Yes, I think it's possible, especially with the way I started,“ Kane told Sky TV in an interview.
The 32-year-old Kane said he likes to chase records, but is aware that it is still “a long way” and he will need consistency over many months to match Lewandowski, whose achievement he described as extraordinary.
“In March we will see if it is really possible“, he said.
Kane was the Bundesliga's top scorer in his first two seasons for Bayern with 36 and 26 goals respectively.
At the end of September he became the fastest player to reach 100 goals for a club in Europe's top five leagues, in 104 games since his transfer from Tottenham in 2023.
Kane has 114 goals in 120 appearances for Bayern in all competitions before their final match of the year, which is in the Bundesliga against Heidenheim on Sunday.
In the interview, Kane also welcomed the imminent return of playmaker Jamal Musiala, who is absent out of action since July with a broken leg and a sprained ankle.
Musiala has returned to some of the team's training sessions and should get his first minutes in January. Kane said he considered Jamal the best player in the team before the injury.
The England international said he also welcomed the return of Alphonso Davies, who has been sidelined with a serious knee injury. Kane feels he has two valuable new additions to the squad in Davies and Musiala.
