Aston Villa won 2:0 in their away match against Newcastle in the 23rd round of the Premier League, BTA reported.
The match began with a miss by Sandro Tonali from the hosts, and Emiliano Buendia gave the Birmingham team an advantage with a shot from mid-range after a pass from Morgan Rodgers in the 19th minute. Shortly before the break, Lewis Miley was also close to scoring, but goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez saved Villa's goal.
The guests waited for their moment and in the 88th minute, Ollie Watkins headed in from close range to shape the final result. The first success for Aston Villa at Newcastle since 2005 provided an asset of 46 points for Birmingham. They are in third place in the provisional standings.
Newcastle have 33 points in ninth place in the Premier League. Chelsea won 3-1 away at Crystal Palace in the London derby of the round. Goals from Estevao in the 34th minute and after the break from Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandes from the penalty spot provided a comfortable lead for the "Blues".
Adam Wharton received a second yellow and red card in the 72nd minute, and his teammate Chris Richards scored the consolation goal for the "Eagles" shortly before the end of regular time. Chelsea climbed to fourth place with 37 points, while Palace occupy 15th place. Nottingham Forest won 2-0 away at Brentford after goals from Igor Jesus and Taiwo Avonyi. Later today, league leaders Arsenal host Manchester United.
