Lindsey Vonn's latest surgery on her left leg has been successful and she will now be able to return to the United States. The 41-year-old American was recovering in a hospital in Treviso, BTA reports.
Von fell heavily just 13 seconds into the start of the Olympic downhill last Sunday and was evacuated from the track by helicopter. She has since undergone several surgeries. Just nine days earlier, the ski star had torn the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee in another accident.
On her Instagram account, Vonn said that she was receiving many messages from fans who were saddened by what had happened. “Please don't be sad. I accept the sympathy, love and support with an open heart, but not regret. I hope my struggle gives you the strength to keep going, because that's what I do and I will continue to do. Always," she wrote.
Her father, Alan Kildow, told the Associated Press that if it were up to him, his daughter would no longer compete. Vonn, however, concluded her message with confidence that she looks forward to the day she will be on top of the mountain again - and that she will achieve it.
