National Basketball Association (NBA) champion Oklahoma City will not visit the White House during its trip to Washington this weekend, the club announced, BTA reported.

Representatives of the Thunder and the White House have held talks to welcome the 2025 champions, but insufficient time has prevented this from happening.

"We have been in touch and are grateful for the communication we have had, but it simply did not work out," Oklahoma City said in a statement.

The visit to the White House is a long-standing tradition for NBA champions, dating back to Boston's visit in 1963. Teams typically plan to celebrate when a regular-season game takes them to the nation's capital. The Thunder play Washington on Saturday.

Several teams have declined invitations in recent years, including the Golden State Warriors, who won the title in 2017.

Last month, the U.S. men's ice hockey team, which won the Olympic gold medal at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games, attended the ceremony at the special invitation of President Donald Trump. The team also attended an Oval Office event with Trump, including lunch at the White House.
