Roma director Lina Suluku has resigned from her post following an angry backlash from fans who decided to support sacked coach Daniele de Rossi, reported BTA.
"We thank Lina for her dedicated service during a critical period for the club and wish her all the best in her future endeavours,” said a brief statement on Roma's website.
Italian media reports that the police have long considered whether additional and increased security should be assigned to Suluku for security reasons after a poster with a threatening message was hung at the training ground.
Roma went on a four game winless run at the start of the Serie A season, and Suluku – a Greek sports lawyer, decided to fire him. But that didn't sit well with the fans, for whom De Rossi is a club icon. He has nearly 20 years in the team as a player, and became the coach in place of the Portuguese Jose Mourinho, who was fired in January. De Rossi made way for Croatian Ivan Juric, who will make his debut today against the 2nd-placed Udinese team.
The lawyer was hired by the American Friedkin family in April 2023, who are the owners of Roma. Before coming to the Eternal City, she was the CEO of Olympiakos (Piraeus) and has now taken up the same role at the Italian club.
