FIFA: Player welfare is our top priority - 1

FIFA president Gianni Infantino says player welfare "remains a priority" for FIFA in the week that unions filed a legal complaint against the organization with the European Commission.

Football unions and leagues have accused the sport's global governing body of abusing its dominant position under EU competition law.

Infantino on the social platform Instagram his photo with the president of the Spanish union AFE David Aganso in Miami, USA.

"FIFA continues to work with players' organizations to ensure player welfare remains a priority and I look forward to continuing to work with Dovid and everyone at AFE to achieve this goal,'' Gianni Infantino captioned the photo .

FIFPro Europe, the continental arm of the World Footballers' Union, declined to comment, but sources told "Reuters" they said that Aganso's meeting with Infantino was private.

The scheduling of the Club World Cup is seen as a turning point in the escalating action against FIFA. The US tournament won't end until July 13, leaving little time to rest in the offseason before preparations for the domestic championships begin.

FIFA insisted the calendar agreement was the result of extensive consultation and accused major leagues of hypocrisy as many, including the Premier League, had planned their own pre-season events.
