Jorge Martin is the new MotoGP world champion. Martinatora won his first title in the premier class of the world championship in motorcycling on the track after finishing third in the Barcelona Grand Prix race, which ended the 2024 season, Sportal.bg reported.
The race in “Catalunya“ was won by his rival in the title dispute Francesco Banaia, who led from start to finish. For the Italian, this was victory No. 11 in long races in 2024, but due to his weaker results in the sprints, he lost the title to Martin.
Martinatora took second place after the start, but at the beginning of the second round he was overtaken by Marc Marquez. The Pramac Ducati rider then decided to ride a little more conservatively and didn't even try to chase the leaders, finishing comfortably in third place.

In the lead, Marquez spent the first half of the 24-lap race closely behind his future teammate Banaya, but never got close enough to attack him. In the second half of the race, Marquez fell slightly behind the leader to finish second, securing third place in the final MotoGP standings for 2024.
In his final race as a MotoGP starter, Aleix Espargaro failed to finish fourth after being overtaken by Alex Marquez on the penultimate lap and remaining fifth. At the very end, Brad Binder overtook Enea Bastianini in the fight for sixth position, and Franco Morbidelli, Marco Bedzecki and Pedro Acosta also entered the top 10. Fabio Quartararo, Miguel Oliveira, Jack Miller, Yoan Zarco and Maverick Viñales also scored points from the Barcelona Grand Prix.
In the final standings for the 2024 MotoGP season, Martin finished with 508 points, just 10 ahead of Banaya. Marc Marquez finished 116 points behind the world champion, beating Bastianini by 6 points in the battle for third place. There will not be much time for the MotoGP riders to celebrate, as they will start their preparations for the 2025 season on Tuesday. Then there will be a one-day test at the “Catalunya“ track, in which we will see the newly crowned champion Martin aboard the Aprilia bike for the first time. And the 2025 season will start between February 28 and March 2 with the Thai Grand Prix at the “Buriram“ track.
