The Lazio team reacted appropriately after the heavy home defeat by Inter with 0:6 in the previous round, defeating Lecce with 2:1 in their visit in the 17th round of the Italian Serie A. Lazio occupies fourth place in the provisional standings with 34 points, while Lecce is 14th with 16 points in its assets, BTA reported.
The victory of the team from Rome was far from convincing, although the hosts from Lecce played with 10 men throughout the second half. Lecce's chances of winning anything from the match, however, diminished dramatically at the end of the first half.
The hosts were left with a man less in the first minute of added time when French defender Frederic Gilbert was shown a red card for handball, and two minutes later Argentine Valentin Castellanos scored 1-0 in favor of Lazio from the penalty spot.
Tete Morente equalized for Lecce five minutes after the break and it seemed that the hosts could hold on to take at least a point, but substitute Adam Marusic, who had come on from the bench four minutes earlier, scored the winning goal for Lazio in the 87th minute.
