The big surprise in Miami is a fact: Carlos Alcaraz is out early in the tournament - 1

Belgian veteran David Goffin pulled off the big surprise in the second round of the "Masters" 1000 tournament in Miami, eliminating the number 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz from Spain, BTA reported.

The 34-year-old Goffin won 5:7, 6:3, 6:4 and recorded his second victory in three matches against Alcaraz. In addition, he is on a streak of three consecutive victories against players from the top 3 of the world rankings, although he currently occupies 55th place in it.

Even more impressive is that the Belgian made a turnaround after losing the first set. In it, he led 4:3 in the game, but allowed two breaks at the end, which gave the initiative to Alcaraz. The Spaniard, who won the Miami tournament in 2022, however, suffered a decline in his performance in the second and third sets and Goffin immediately took advantage of this.

With his victory, Goffin qualified for the third round of the tournament, having not reached this stage since 2019. His next opponent is American Brandon Nakashima, who defeated Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena 6:4, 4:6, 3:6.

Number 12 in the scheme Tommy Paul also advances to the third round in Miami. The American, like Goffin, had to make a turnaround to win against Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan 5:7, 7:5, 6:4. His next opponent is Francisco Cherundolo of Argentina, who prevailed 6:1, 6:2 over Alexander Muller of France.
