Alcaraz after shocking loss: I played very poorly - 1

Spanish Carlos Alcaraz said he played very poorly in his match with Belgian David Goffin. The 2022 champion Alcaraz gave up after 7:5, 4:6, 3:6 and was eliminated in the second round of the tournament. For him, this was his first match, as he rested in the first round as seeded number 2, BTA reported.

"I played very poorly. I wanted to play better and after winning the first set I thought that would happen. But instead my level did not increase at all, while he showed very good tennis. "I think he had that improvement after the first set," Alcaraz said after the match, in which he made 43 unforced errors.

Had he won the Miami tournament, Alcaraz could have hoped to climb to No. 2 in the world rankings, but for now he will remain at No. 3, behind Germany's Alexander Zverev and leader Yannick Siner, who is currently serving a doping ban.
