Bulgaria is sending off an exceptional year in snowboarding and winter sports in general, said the president of the Bulgarian Ski Federation (BFSki) Tseko Minev in a Facebook address. He did this after Tervel Zamfirov's world title in the men's parallel slalom.
"This year is exceptional for Bulgarian snowboarding and in general for our winter sports, because we haven't had such successes for a long time", Minev said.
"Radoslav Yankov recorded a victory and third place in the World Cup. Malena Zamfirova is 15, and has two silver and one gold medal from the World Junior Championship, she is second in the World Cup. And we come to Tervel Zamfirov, who made a historic achievement today - world champion for men. After the three gold medals at the Junior World Championship and university champion, he is now the world champion for men!", continued Minev.
"We could only dream of this until now, but all this happened. The emotion is great, it keeps us all going, we hope these things continue in the future", he added.
"Everyone in snowboarding is working very hard, I can say the same for alpine skiing. Albert Popov recorded a victory in Madonna di Campiglio, which had not happened in 45 years. Vladi Zografski also has good results in the top 10, so this is a very good year for Bulgarian skiing", he concluded.
