Italian Carlo Ancelotti recorded a victory in his last match as Real Madrid head coach, after the team defeated Real Sociedad 2-0 at home in a match from the last, 38th round of the La Liga season and set the tone for the arrival of new coach Xabi Alonso next week, BTA reported.
Real Madrid collected 84 points in second position, while Real Sociedad has 46 points in 11th place, before the remaining matches of the round are played.
Before the start of the match, fans of the "Bernabeu" paid tribute to Real Madrid's most successful player and coach of all time, as Luka Modric (28 trophies), like Ancelotti (15), will leave the club in the summer.
Forward Kylian Mbappe scored both goals for the hosts, scoring in the 38th and 83rd minutes. The Frenchman, who is vying with Sporting Lisbon's Victor Goqueres for the Golden Boot as Europe's top scorer, missed a penalty before scoring his 30th goal of the season in stoppage time to make it 1-0.
He scored his second in the 83rd minute after tapping in a pass from substitute Vinicius Junior.
Legendary midfielder Luka Modric was substituted in the 87th minute to a standing ovation from the Bernabeu crowd. The final whistle brought more tears to the home fans, as Ancelotti and Lucas Vazquez also bid farewell to Real Madrid.
