Real Madrid's new coach Xabi Alonso was today introduced at the “Bernabeu“ stadium. He signed a three-season contract, replacing Carlo Ancelotti, who will be the coach of Brazil, BTA reported.
Alonso officially starts work on June 1 and will lead the team at the Club World Cup, which begins two weeks later.
“Without a doubt, this is a very special day for me. A day that I will remember for the rest of my life. I am very happy to be here, in what I feel like my home. The connection with Madrid has never been broken and since I entered Valdebebas an hour and a half ago, that feeling has been rekindled again“, began Alonso.
“I have the feeling that this is the beginning of a new stage. Florentino, thank you very much for your trust. Before I start talking about the new stage, I don't want to forget to mention the man who left. Carlo Ancelotti was my coach and a great man who had a huge influence on me. Without his mastery, I probably wouldn't be here. I take up the baton and accept his legacy with great honor and pride. I hope to live up to expectations and lead the club to wherever we all believe we can go.
We are beginning a stage in which I feel that the club and the fans are united. We have a great team, we have fantastic players and a lot of potential. That gives me reasons to come here with a lot of energy and belief. "We are convinced that we can achieve important things worthy of Real Madrid," said Xabi Alonso.
