Olympic weightlifting champion Carlos Nassar returned to his memories of the difficult path he took to reach the big peak. In front of Lora Krumova on NOVA for the show “In Focus“ he paid tribute to his deceased coach Ilian Iliev, Gong.bg reported.
“I was at a funeral, then I traveled to a competition. This was my biggest failure, right when I had to show what he taught me, and I failed. I had a very hard time forgiving myself, which made me get back up afterwards. His son is my coach. His father has built me as a person. This family deserves to experience success. He also put in a lot of work, even in his death, he was there for my preparation“, shared Nassar.
Our famous athlete considers Ilian Iliev a great man who played a key role in his successes.
„In Qatar it was one of my most difficult competitions. I have lifted much more, but it was difficult because I had no support. I was the only crazy person who believed that things would happen. I trained in a small room that did not even have enough weights, I was in a cast before that.“
"He was a very popular person, like my parent and friend. He saw in me the strength that lies behind a lot of pain. I felt awe and love for him, he took care of me as if he were his own son. My life has been difficult since my childhood, I grew up with the pain of my mother and brothers because of the absence of my father. A child is confused when he sees his loved ones suffer, but in my family I received everything. Despite everything, even when I had injuries, I did not feel afraid, "said the weightlifter.
Carlos Nassar is preparing a spectacle of his life. "It will be a real cultural event with many surprises," promised the champion.
"The injuries in my shoulder give me free time in which I can think about the spectacle. I want it to motivate, for everything to be very sincere. Let the children see the path they have drawn. It will be art, like theater - a real cultural event. I guarantee that it will be very beautiful. We will have a modern ballet performed by a girl inspired by me. There will be many more surprises," shared Nassar.
