Marc Marquez consolidates his dominance in MotoGP - 1

The Spanish Ducati rider Marc Marquez won the Italian MotoGP Grand Prix after yesterday also winning the sprint race at the Mugello circuit (Tuscany). This is victory number 93 in the career of the eight-time world champion and his second in Italy, where he is generally never a favorite, BTA reported.

This was his fifth victory of the season from nine races so far. The older brother of the Marquez family finished with a time of 41:09.214 minutes, ahead of his younger brother Alex from the Gresini team by 1.942 seconds. Third came with a strong final ride the Italian Fabio Di Gianantonio from Pertamina Enduro, who finished 2.136 seconds behind the winner. Last year's winner Francesco Banaia (Italy, Ducati) remained outside the podium - fourth, more than 5 seconds behind the champion. He was content with only the fastest lap on the track today.

At the very beginning of the race, the Italian Francesco Banaia took the lead with Ducati, who had three consecutive victories here in recent years. However, on the very next lap, Marc Marquez regained the first position after starting from pole position, overtaking the Italian on the straight. In the first laps, Reco Banaia struggled and was constantly in second or third position - close to the Marquez brothers.

On the fifth lap, Banaia led again, and then Alex Marquez took the lead in the race for the first time. On the ninth lap, Marc Marquez regained the lead and began to build up an advantage. Two laps before the end, Di Giantanio overtook Peco Banaia and left him off the podium.

In this way, Marc Marquez increased his lead in the general classification, now having 270 points ahead of his brother Alex Marquez, who has 230, and Francesco Banaia is third with 160. Two more Italians follow in the standings - Franco Morbidelli (128) and Fabio Di Giantantonio (120).

The next race is the Dutch Grand Prix next weekend.

In the Moto2 class, the winner at the Mugello track was the Spanish pilot Manuel Gonzalez of the Liqui Moly Dinavolt team. He overtook his compatriot Albert Arenas of Italgen Gresini by almost a second and a half, and in third place was also a Spaniard - Aron Canet of Fantic Racing Lino Sonego. Gonzalez leads the overall standings with 143 points ahead of Canet with 134, and third is Brazilian Diogo Moreira with 103.

In the Moto3 category, the race in Italy was won by Spaniard Maximo Quiles from Valresa Aspar Team. This was his first victory. He overtook his compatriot Alvaro Carpe from Red Bull KTM with a photo finish and a negligible difference of 0.006. Italian Dennis Foggia from Valresa Aspar Team finished third. In the overall standings, Spaniard José Rueda (Red Bull KTM) continues to be the leader with 162 points ahead of another Spaniard, Angel Piqueras (Frinsa) with 106 and Alvaro Carpe, who has collected 105 after today.
