Slavia's goalkeeper Georgi Petkov said in an interview with BGNES that this year will be his last in professional football.

"There is an anniversary coming up in March, then I will do a benefit and that's it!", said the former national team player, who is the oldest footballer not only in the domestic championship, but also in all of Europe with his 49 years. Only the Japanese Kazuyoshi Miura, who is still playing at 58, is ahead of him.

"May we be alive and well, I will end a decent career. I will not chase records anymore,", announced Petkov.

"Slavia? I hope for better games this season. There are quite a few young guys in the team. You know what the bosses' policy is. And hopefully finish higher in the standings. And as for me - whenever the coaching staff needs me, I'm on the line!", the goalkeeper concluded.

The 49-year-old Petkov is a four-time Bulgarian champion with Levski - 2002, 2006, 2007 and 2009, a four-time winner of the Bulgarian Cup and three-time Super Cup winner with the "blues". With Slavia, he triumphed once for the Bulgarian Cup in 2018, when in the final the "whites" defeated Levski after a penalty shootout.
