Only a victory over Austria will preserve the Bulgarian national basketball team's chances for the next phase of the world qualifiers, BTA reported.
The national basketball team will host the Austrians tonight at 6:00 PM at "Arena Botevgrad" in their third match from Group F of the preliminary rounds for the 2027 World Championship in Qatar. The Bulgarians have lost two of their two matches so far (76:88 to Austria) and (70:81 to the Netherlands) and occupy the last, third place in the provisional standings.
The top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the main phase of the world qualifiers, and in Group F at this stage these are the teams of Austria and the Netherlands, which have an asset of two wins and one loss each.
Austria will advance tonight if they beat Bulgaria, and in a similar situation the Netherlands will also guarantee a place in the next phase.
Success for Bulgaria will bring the preservation of its chances of occupying one of the first two positions in the final standings.
