When it comes to heavy artillery in the utility sector, the Russian KamAZ has something new to boast about. A 50-ton monster appears on the scene, designed to keep the road network in good condition, regardless of whether there is a snowstorm or a summer heat outside. At the heart of this multifunctional platform is a K5 generation chassis, which has been transformed into a universal warrior by specialists at the “Smolmash“ plant.
Instead of a standard dump truck, we are faced with the four-axle KAMAZ-65951 model with an 8x4 wheel formula. This machine does not give a damn – the front axles are ready to take on a load of up to 18 tons, while the rear axle carries an impressive 32 tons. Under the cabin, the 13-liter KamAZ R6 diesel engine, generating a power of 482 hp, roars cheerfully. All this power is managed by a precise 16-speed transmission, and braking is entrusted to a pneumatic system with intelligent electronic control.
However, the magic of the KDM-7881190 model lies in its ability to transform in no time. “Smolmash“ have implemented a quick-change system for equipment that allows the machine to be an all-season player. The key element is the 14-cubic-meter sanding and chemical hopper, protected by a sturdy tarpaulin cover. Added to this are 3,000-liter plastic tanks for wetting the reagents, which ensures that ice on the roads has no chance.
The best part? If the municipality's needs suddenly change, the spreader can be dismantled in just 15 minutes. And without the need for a crane or additional lifting equipment! The machine instantly returns to its classic dump truck role. At the front, a huge, 4-meter "shovel" is proudly mounted. Thanks to the use of composite materials, it is lighter and provides perfect snow sliding, which makes cleaning highways fast and efficient as child's play.
