The largest Mercedes-Benz truck production plant located in the German city of Werth, is constantly working to reduce harmful emissions, integrating new technologies in its production workshops.
The installation of photovoltaic panels on the roofs of six buildings played an important role in this process. The first of them were installed in November 2022. Then a modular type of solar panels was chosen due to the peculiarities of the roof construction.
To date, around 6,000 modules with a total capacity of 4,000 kW are in operation. For example, the energy produced is enough to power 1,000 private houses. Today, 115 million kWh are needed to operate the plant. Thus, the solar panels cover 4% of the plant's electricity needs.
All of the company's photovoltaic systems are capable of producing up to 4 million kWh per year. It should be noted that thanks to this and other innovative technologies, the amount of CO2 emissions at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wert from 2021 to 2023 has decreased by 23.8%.
