Financial Times: Trump-Xi Jinping meeting faces failure

The reason is insufficient progress in US-China trade talks

The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping is under threat of failure, the Financial Times reported, citing its sources.

„Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth have spoken to their Chinese counterparts, which has sparked speculation about a meeting between the presidents. However, insufficient progress in US-China trade talks has reduced the chances of holding a summit in Beijing“, the report said.

It is noted that Trump and Xi may still hold a meeting at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, but it will be much less important. The stumbling block is that China, according to Washington, continues to supply the United States with chemicals used to produce fentanyl. Beijing, for its part, is concerned about the US tariffs.

Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that no decision had yet been made on the possible participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the APEC summit.
