The death toll in mass anti-corruption protests in Nepal has reached 72, with at least 2,113 injured, Reuters reported, citing the Nepalese Health Ministry, BTA reported.

"The bodies of many people who died in malls, homes and other buildings that were set on fire are now being found," said Health Ministry spokesman Prakash Budhatokhi.

Nepal was rocked by the worst riots in decades this week. Many government buildings, including parliament and the Supreme Court, were stormed by demonstrators. Protesters also attacked police stations and the homes of politicians. The homes of President Ram Chandra Paudel and Prime Minister Sharma Oli were also set on fire.

Oli resigned on Tuesday and Sushila Karki, a former chief justice of the Supreme Court, was appointed as interim prime minister. Karki is expected to prepare Nepal for new parliamentary elections scheduled for March 5, 2026.
