DNA traces found on two objects found near the scene of Charlie Kirk's murder match the DNA profile of the main suspect detained by authorities, FBI Director Kash Patel announced today, quoted by Agence France-Presse, BTA reported.
Five days after the assassination attempt that shook the United States and exacerbated political divisions in the country, the investigation is focused on 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. He was arrested on Thursday evening and refuses to cooperate with law enforcement.
Police have collected a wealth of evidence, including a screwdriver found on the roof of a university campus in Utah, from where the shooter opened fire. A towel was also found at the scene, in which the weapon with the optical sight was wrapped, Patel told “Fox News“.
“Today I can confirm that the DNA traces from the towel and the screwdriver match those of the suspect who is in custody“, said the FBI director.
He noted that Robinson left a note before the attack. “It says, roughly speaking: I have an opportunity to eliminate Charlie Kirk and I will take advantage of it. The FBI has evidence of that note, although it has already been destroyed“, Patel said.
Robinson is expected to be formally charged tomorrow. US President Donald Trump, a close friend of the murdered man, confirmed that he will attend a memorial service in Arizona on Sunday. The event will be held in a stadium with a capacity of over 63,000 people.
