The German party "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) has overtaken the conservative bloc CDU/CSU (Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union) in a public opinion poll published today by the "YouGov" institute, DPA reported, BTA reported.
The agency emphasizes that for the first time, the far-right, anti-immigrant party comes out on top in a national poll by the international marketing research and data analysis company.
Support for the AfD has increased by two percentage points compared to a survey in August and is now 27%, while Chancellor Friedrich Merz's Christian Democrats (CDU) and their sister party in Bavaria, the Christian Social Union (CSU), have fallen by one point - up to 26%.
In recent surveys by other sociological institutes, the AfG was at the level of the conservative bloc or slightly behind it.
If a general election were held this Sunday, the Social Democrats (SPD) - the junior partner in the government - would receive 15% of the vote, which is one percentage point more, according to the "Yugav" survey.
The situation with the Greens is unchanged - 11%, while the "Left" party reports a drop of one point to 9%.
Support for the newly formed populist "Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance" (ASV) remains stable at 5%, as does that for the business-oriented Free Democrats (GSvDP) - at 4%, which leaves this formation below the 5% threshold needed to enter parliament.
The survey was conducted between September 12 and 15, and 1,649 German voters participated.
