Kiev confirms: US approves first aid package for Ukraine - 1

The US has approved the first packages of military aid to Ukraine under a new mechanism financed by other allies, confirmed Foreign Ministry spokesman Georgy Tykhy, quoted by Ukrinform and Reuters, BTA reports.

Kiev expects official information from the US about the first packages distributed under the initiative, Tykhy added at a briefing. He stressed that this confirms that the mechanism is working and is extremely important.

The spokesman refused to disclose details.

"Ukraine's needs during the war are great and will remain great. That is why we expect our partner countries to continue to replenish the initiative with additional contributions. This is extremely important," the diplomat stressed.

Undersecretary of Defense for Political Affairs Elbridge Colby has approved two deliveries worth $500 million under the new mechanism called the "Priority Ukraine Needs List" (PURL), sources said.

The first batches of US military equipment for Ukraine, purchased under a new financial agreement with the allies, are already in the process of being delivered, NATO's top representative in Ukraine, Patrick Turner, said. The four packages are in question, he specified.

Yesterday, Reuters reported, citing its sources, that the first shipments of US arms aid had been approved.
