The US State Department has approved a potential sale of Javelin anti-tank missile systems to Poland worth $780 million.

This was announced by the Pentagon's Defense and Security Cooperation Agency, which is responsible for the sale of military equipment and weapons abroad under intergovernmental contracts.

According to the statement, the Polish authorities had previously submitted a request to the United States for the purchase of 2,506 Javelin FGM-148F missiles and 253 launchers. The total value of the deal is estimated at $780 million.

The statement claims that the sale of these weapons to Poland “will contribute to achieving the goals of the foreign policy and US national security“ by strengthening the defense of a NATO ally.

The agency believes that the potential deal “will improve Poland's ability to respond to current and future threats“. However, it believes that the sale of Javelin anti-tank missiles to Warsaw will not change the military balance of power in the region and “will not require the deployment of additional US government personnel or contractors“.
