On Friday, September 19, ambassadors of the European Union countries will meet for an extraordinary meeting to discuss new sanctions against Russia. This is reported by the Suspilne newspaper, quoted by FOCUS, citing three senior EU diplomats.
According to the newspaper's interlocutors, the agenda has not yet been officially made public, so the discussion may be held in an oral format.
The meeting was convened by the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU and will be held within the framework of the Committee of Permanent Representatives.
Earlier, one of the leading EU diplomats said that the European Commission could present the 19th package of sanctions against Russia on September 19.
During a briefing, the Deputy Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission, Olof Gill, said that the package is planned to be presented “soon”. He also commented on the statement of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on the X platform to accelerate the abandonment of Russian energy sources.
"We cannot go beyond what the President said in her message on the social network. We will work to accelerate the process of separating the EU from Russian energy sources“, the spokesman confirmed.
On September 11, the European Commissioner for Energy, Dan Johansen, stated that US representatives agreed with the representatives of the European Union on the need to continue pressure on Russia to end the war that Russia started against Ukraine.
