Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has called for the creation of a joint defense platform among Middle Eastern countries, stressing the need to prioritize regional defense alongside economic and technological cooperation, the Türkiye Today website reported, quoted by BTA.
“Turkey, especially together with Egypt and Saudi Arabia, really needs to put the issue of joint security on the agenda, alongside issues of economy, trade relations and technology”, Fidan said yesterday in an interview with Egyptian TV station “MBC Masr“.
During the interview, Fidan expressed optimism about the creation of a single security platform for Arab and Islamic countries, citing the mature structures of nation-states within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the member states of the Arab League. “I think this can happen. Because when we look at other examples around the world, it is a matter of political systems. It is also a matter of achieving a common ideal“, Fidan commented.
The Turkish foreign minister also highlighted the transformation of regional dynamics due to Israel's actions in recent months, noting in particular the recent attack on Qatar. “The attack on Qatar changed many things. It seems that Israel has already calculated all its risks and has turned regional expansionism into a policy beyond the Palestinian issue“, Fidan also noted.
