Polish and allied aircraft were raised into the air early this morning to ensure the safety of Polish airspace after Russia began carrying out strikes in western Ukraine, near the border with Poland. The operation ended after the end of the Russian attack in neighboring Ukraine, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
"Polish and allied aircraft are operating in our airspace, and ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems are at the highest level of readiness", the Polish operational command initially announced in a publication in "Ex".
At 06:40 (Bulgarian time) an air alert was declared in almost all of Ukraine after warnings by the Ukrainian Air Force of Russian missile and drone attacks.
Shortly after 08:00 Bulgarian time, Polish and allied forces ended the operation after Russian air strikes in Ukraine had stopped, the Polish operational command subsequently announced.
The statement noted that the actions of Poland and NATO were "preventive and aimed at securing the airspace in areas adjacent to the endangered zone".
