German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius warned on Thursday of a growing threat from Russian space activities. According to him, two Russian satellites are monitoring the movement of Intelsat satellites used by the German armed forces and other partners, „Reuters“ reported, quoted by News.bg.
„Russia and China have significantly expanded their capabilities for waging war in space in recent years: they can disrupt satellites, blind them, manipulate them or destroy them kinetically,“ Pistorius said at a space conference in Berlin.
He stressed the need for talks to develop defensive and even offensive capabilities in space as a means of deterrence, citing the activities of the Russian Luch Olymp satellites, which are used to track Intelsat.
