Bulgarian citizen Rositsa Georgieva, a resident of the Volgograd region, was detained and sentenced to three years in prison on charges of "justifying terrorism". The news was reported by the Russian independent human rights channel OVD-Info on Telegram, reports News.bg.

According to the information, a criminal case has been opened against Georgieva due to her comments under publications related to the activities of the "Russian Volunteer Corps", which is fighting on the side of the Ukrainian army. It is reported that the comments were made in March and November 2024.

On September 9, 2025, a court in Volgograd ruled effective sentence - three years in a general regime colony. According to OVD-Info, the decision has not yet entered into force.

Human rights activists specify that it is not clear exactly when the investigation against Georgieva began. However, it is known that in December 2024 she went through a “series of arrests“:

  • On December 9, she was detained for 13 days on an administrative case for disobeying the police.

  • On December 21 - for another 10 days on charges of petty hooliganism.
