Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that diplomatic solutions to the crisis over Iran's nuclear program remain possible, but the situation is becoming more complicated after the UN Security Council rejected the draft resolution proposed by Russia and China.
“Diplomacy will never die, but things have become much more complicated now“, he replied to a journalist's question about the possibility of continuing negotiations on the Iranian issue.
The current situation over Iran's nuclear program arose solely because of the US's unilateral withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, Araghchi said.
“The US has betrayed diplomacy since the very beginning. The EU-3 (France, Britain and Germany) for their part, buried all diplomatic efforts by activating the mechanism for the rapid reinstatement of sanctions“, he added.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has called negotiations with the United States impossible, as "they constantly violate all agreements and threaten military intervention".
"The other side violates all promises, lies and constantly threatens military intervention. It is impossible to negotiate with this country; it is impossible to sit down and reach an agreement with full confidence and trust“, he wrote on his Facebook page.
According to Khamenei, the United States could bomb Iranian nuclear facilities again or kill high-ranking Iranian military personnel if Washington had such an opportunity.
