New drones were spotted over military sites in Denmark last night, Agence France-Presse reported, citing a statement from the Danish army, BTA reports.
"The armed forces confirm that drones were spotted over several sites during the night. Several measures have been taken", the statement said, without giving details about the cases and the army's response.
In recent days, there have been other cases of drones being spotted over military sites in Denmark and Norway, leading to the closure of several airports, and Copenhagen has hinted at possible Russian involvement. Danish media reported that no airports were closed overnight.
Yesterday, the Danish army again said that unidentified drones had been spotted over "several military sites" on Saturday night, but declined to provide further details. Police confirmed that one or two drones had been spotted on Friday night near the country's largest military base, which houses all of the armed forces' helicopters, air surveillance systems and a pilot training school.
NATO has increased its vigilance in the Baltic Sea following the incidents. The enhanced measures include the deployment of multiple intelligence and surveillance platforms, as well as at least one air defense frigate west of Russia, alliance spokesman Martin O'Donnell said.
A two-day European Union summit will be held in Copenhagen next week, bringing together heads of state and government.
