Trump reaches deal with Harvard - 1

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that his administration had reached a deal with Harvard University after months of negotiations and that the university would pay $500 million, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

"Linda is working out the final details", Trump told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House, referring to Education Secretary Linda McMahon.

"They will pay $500 million and run commercial schools. They will teach people how to use artificial intelligence and many other things, engines, many things,", the head of state announced.

So far, Harvard University has not commented on Donald Trump's statement.

The Trump administration has threatened schools, universities and colleges that they will be deprived of federal funds due to issues related to pro-Palestinian protests against Israel in connection with the war in the Gaza Strip, climate initiatives and policies related to diversity, equality and inclusion.

Trump said that universities such as Harvard have allowed anti-Semitism during pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

Earlier, Harvard University President Alan Garber said that various federal measures taken by the Trump administration could lead to a loss of funding for the university in the amount of nearly one billion dollars a year.

In March, the Trump administration said that it was reviewing nine billion dollars in federal contracts and grants awarded to Harvard.

In April, the administration sent a letter to Harvard demanding changes and warning that more than $2.3 billion in federal funding would be frozen.
