Argentine senators overruled President Javier Millay's veto on Monday, a blow to the libertarian leader ahead of crucial midterm elections that could determine the future of his economic reform agenda, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

The opposition-controlled Senate in Argentina's National Congress (parliament) voted overwhelmingly to override Millay's veto on bills boosting funding for public universities and pediatric healthcare, by 59 to 3 votes and 58 to 4 votes, respectively.

Milley, seeking to implement his austerity measures to shrink the government, believes the new spending will threaten the country's fiscal balance Argentina.
