A bronze statue of US President Donald Trump holding hands with convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has returned to Capitol Hill a week after it was removed, The Washington Post reported.

According to the newspaper, the statue was damaged during removal. The sculpture has been almost completely restored, with Trump and Epstein's hands, which were previously separated, being reunited.

It was previously reported that the statue can no longer be displayed on Capitol Hill under a permit issued by the National Park Service.

Epstein was arrested by New York State law enforcement on July 6, 2019. Prosecutors said they had evidence that between 2002 and 2005, he arranged for dozens of underage girls, the youngest of whom was 14 years old, to visit his Manhattan home.

Epstein's circle of friends and acquaintances included numerous current and former officials not only from the United States but also from many other countries, including former heads of state, prominent business leaders, and celebrities from show business.

The criminal prosecution of the financier in The US was suspended following his suicide in his prison cell on August 10, 2019.
