Three Croatian mountaineers were buried today by an avalanche under Mount Tosc in the Julian Alps, northwestern Slovenia, Slovenian and Croatian media reported, quoted by dariknews.bg.
A rescue operation is underway. No further information yet.
Due to poor weather conditions, a helicopter cannot be involved in the rescue operation.
The terrain conditions are very difficult. Rain, snow and an increased risk of avalanches are further complicating the rescuers' work, the Slovenian Mountain Rescue Service said, which confirmed the incident.
As of 2 p.m. local time yesterday (3 p.m. Bulgarian time), rescuers had still not been able to reach the missing tourists, whose condition is unknown.
Local police told regional television channel En1 that the avalanche had buried three Croatian citizens. The group consisted of seven people - four remained at the Vodnikov Dom hut, while three set off to climb Mount Tosc.
