Mahmoud Abbas welcomes Gaza deal - 1

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the Gaza agreement reached between Israel and "Hamas" and said he hoped it would lead to the creation of a Palestinian state, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.

Abbas "welcomes the agreement announced by US President Donald Trump to end the war in the Gaza Strip" and "expressed hope that these efforts are a prelude to a lasting political solution that will lead to the end of the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state", a statement on social media said.

Jordan also welcomed today the agreement and the mechanisms for implementing its first phase, stressing that it should lead to an end to the war, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the delivery of humanitarian aid and the exchange of Palestinian prisoners for hostages in Gaza, Reuters notes.

The Israeli government will meet today at 6 p.m. local (and Bulgarian) time to discuss "the plan for the release of all Israeli hostages", Agence France-Presse reported, citing an official statement. It was made after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages in Gaza.

The agenda published on the government website shows that the plan will be presented to ministers by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The ceasefire agreement will enter into force after it is ratified by the government tonight, a representative of Netanyahu's office said, quoted by Reuters.
