About 600,000 households in 9 Ukrainian regions were left without electricity as a result of the massive Russian airstrike overnight, Reuters reported, citing local authorities, BTA reported.
Entire areas in the capital Kiev plunged into darkness. In the border Kharkiv region, more than 200,000 subscribers were left without electricity.
The power supply to 270,000 consumers in Kiev has already been restored, Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk announced in the meantime, quoted by Ukrinform. She noted that the main target of the Russian strikes in Ukraine that night were power plants east of the Dnieper River.
Russia and Ukraine are attacked with drones and missiles practically every night. Energy infrastructure is among the main targets of these attacks, given its strategic importance. Russia has increased its attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure as winter approaches.
