A new 6.9-magnitude earthquake was felt in the same southern region of the Philippines where a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck this morning, Philippine seismologists reported, quoted by the Associated Press, reports BTA.
The head of the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology, Teresito Bacolcol, said that the earthquake shook the city of Manay in Davao Oriental province tonight local time. According to him, the tremor was caused by seismic movement in the same earthquake zone - the Philippine Trench - at a depth of about 10 kilometers.
Seismologists have not yet determined whether this was a separate earthquake or an aftershock after the previous one, which earlier in the day caused the death of five people.
