Melania Trump has kept a line of communication open with Putin on the return of abducted Ukrainian children

US First Lady Melania Trump said she had kept a line of communication open with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the return of children taken during the war in Ukraine, adding that some of them have already been returned to their families and others will be reunited with their families soon, Reuters reported, BTA reported. "These efforts are ongoing", Melania Trump told reporters at the White House today. She added that Putin responded to her letter earlier this year and that contacts between them are ongoing. "President Putin and I have an open line of communication about the well-being of these children," the American first lady said. "Over the past several months, the two countries have engaged in several informal meetings and conversations," she added. Melania Trump said her representative is working directly with the Russian president’s team to ensure the children are safely returned to their families. Eight children have been returned to their families in the past 24 hours, the first lady said. In August, Melania Trump wrote a letter to the Russian president, which her husband delivered to him during a meeting in Alaska. After the invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian children were taken to Russia to be raised with a Russian identity, the Associated Press reported. The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Putin for war crimes, accusing him of personal responsibility for the abduction of children from Ukraine.
