Germany and Turkey have launched negotiations for the purchase of Eurofighter Typhoon fighters, BTA reports, citing Reuters, reports News.bg.
A spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry specified that Germany had responded positively to Airbus's preliminary request for the delivery of the aircraft to Turkey. According to him, the fighters will be used for collective defense within NATO.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful will visit Ankara on October 17 to discuss the issue with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan.
Turkey plans to acquire 40 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft worth 5.6 billion euros. The deal requires the approval of the four countries participating in the “Eurofighter“ program – Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Spain.
The fighter jets are being produced by a consortium including defense companies Airbus, BAE Systems and Leonardo.
