Japan supports the efforts of US President Donald Trump to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and is closely monitoring his contacts with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
This was stated by Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi, commenting on the telephone conversation between the leaders of the US and Russia.

Regarding the possibility of Washington providing Kiev with „Tomahawk“ cruise missiles, Hayashi noted that he was „aware of Russia's reaction“ and expressed hope for „positive actions from Russia“ to achieve a “just and lasting peace in Ukraine“.
The Japanese government, according to the secretary, “will continue to cooperate closely with the international community, primarily the United States, Europe and Ukraine“.
