Russia carried out air strikes on Ukrainian cities overnight, a day after US President Donald Trump welcomed his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington to discuss ending the war, DPA reported.

According to Ukrainian air defense forces, Russian fighter jets attacked with guided bombs. Among the Ukrainian cities affected are Kharkiv, Sumy and Zaporizhia.

Russian drones have also been spotted over Ukraine, attacking Chernihiv and Dnepropetrovsk.

There are no reports of casualties or damage so far.

During the attacks in the Chernihiv region of northern Ukraine, Russian combat drones struck energy facilities overnight, cutting off power to about 17,000 people, according to the region's electricity supplier.

Russia also carried out more than 10 strikes overnight against the city of Chuguiv in the eastern Kharkiv region, mayor Galina Minaeva said on Facebook.

Energy suppliers will only be able to start restoring power after the explosion sites are examined.

The head of the regional The military administration of Zaporizhzhia region, Ivan Fedorov, also reported fires as a result of Russian attacks overnight. There were no casualties, he added.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia attacked Ukraine with 164 drones that night. Of these, 136 were repelled and 27 hit 12 targets.

At the same time, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that it had shot down 41 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory and the Black Sea, including three over the Moscow region.

According to the air transport supervision service "Rosaviatsia", restrictions have been imposed at nine airports in Russia for security reasons.

Such air traffic disruptions often occur in connection with Ukrainian drone attacks.

On Friday, US and Ukrainian presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky met in Washington. After the talks, the American leader called on Russia and Ukraine to immediately cease hostilities, saying that enough blood has been shed.

The two warring parties should "stop where they are right now", Trump wrote on his social network "Truth Social".
