The United States has notified the guarantor states of the peace agreements in Gaza of the possibility of a ceasefire violation by the radical Palestinian movement Hamas.
This is stated in a statement published by the State Department press service.
It states that the United States has “credible intelligence indicating an imminent ceasefire violation by Hamas“. The US position is that “a planned attack on the Palestinian population would constitute a direct and serious violation of the ceasefire and would undermine the significant progress that has been made“.
“The guarantor states require Hamas to abide by its ceasefire obligations“, the US State Department noted.
“If Hamas carries out this attack, measures will be taken to protect the people of Gaza and to preserve the integrity of the ceasefire“, the document states. As the State Department noted, the guarantor states “are committed to ensuring the safety of civilians, maintaining peace, and promoting peace and prosperity for the people of Gaza and the wider region“.
