French President Emmanuel Macron is on an official visit to Slovenia today and tomorrow at the invitation of Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, Slovenian news agency STA reports, BTA reports.
The visit is Macron's first to Slovenia after the summit of the informal MED 9 group, which unites the Mediterranean EU countries, held today in the Slovenian Adriatic resort of Portorož. It aims to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
Macron will be welcomed in the Adriatic town of Koper this afternoon, and meetings will be held in the capital Ljubljana tomorrow morning. A joint press conference of the two leaders is scheduled at the end of the visit.
According to the Slovenian government press service, quoted by state television RTV Slo, the visit is an important stage in the deepening of the strategic partnership between Slovenia and France. The two countries share similar positions on key issues of the EU and the international community and are developing broad economic cooperation.
