An Iranian student detained in France is prepared to be exchanged for French citizens detained in Iran, an Iranian diplomat told the semi-official Tasnim news agency, a day after Tehran said it was willing to exchange prisoners with Paris, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
“The foreign minister announced that Ms. Esfandiari is included in the exchange channel and we have prepared a political and consular package that both sides must implement,“ said the deputy minister for consular affairs at Iran's foreign ministry.
Cécile Kohler and her partner Jacques Parry - both French citizens - have been detained in Iran since 2022.
Iran has accused France of arbitrarily detaining Mahdieh Esfandiari, an Iranian student living in Lyon who was arrested this year for anti-Israeli posts on social media.
