Russian strikes damage Ukraine power grid, drones halt repairs - 1

The Russian army has struck energy and transport infrastructure in Ukraine, the Defense Ministry in Moscow said on Tuesday, as quoted by the BBC.

According to its daily report, "operational-tactical aviation, strike drones, missile troops and artillery" damaged targets "supporting the operations of the Ukrainian armed forces", as well as drone warehouses and positions of Ukrainian troops and foreign mercenaries in 140 regions.

The statement did not specify where exactly the strikes were carried out. Ukrainian authorities said the attacks hit energy infrastructure in the Chernihiv region, leaving hundreds of thousands of people without electricity.

According to the Ukrainian Energy Ministry, Russian drones continue to hover over the damaged facilities, hindering restoration work and endangering teams sent to restore power.

"This is a deliberate act of terrorism. There are no military targets in the area of the affected energy facilities. Russia is deliberately attacking infrastructure on which the lives of ordinary people depend," the Ukrainian Energy Ministry said.

The Russian Defense Ministry has not mentioned strikes in the Chernihiv region in its latest reports and continues to deny attacks on civilian targets. Moscow justifies the attacks on the power grid by claiming that it supports Kiev's military operations.
