US President Donald Trump said he spoke by phone with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and they mainly discussed issues related to trade, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
"We talked about a lot of things, but mostly about the world of trade", Trump told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House. The American president emphasized that energy was also a topic of discussion between them, with Modi assuring him that India would limit its purchases of oil from Russia.
"He will not buy a lot of oil from Russia. He wants to see the war end as much as I do," Trump added.
India and China are the two largest buyers of Russian crude, Reuters notes.
Trump has recently turned his attention to India, imposing tariffs on Indian exports to the United States to force Delhi to stop buying oil from Russia, as Washington tries to pressure Moscow to negotiate a peace deal with Ukraine.
